What You'll Need

  • A website URL

The complete web address you want to link to (including https://)

  • A smartphone (for testing)

To verify your QR code works before downloading

  • Optional: A logo image

If you want to add branding to your QR code (PNG or JPG)

Step-by-Step Instructions

Open the QR Code Generator

Go to our homepage where you'll find the free QR code generator. The URL type is selected by default since it's the most common QR code type.

Tip: Bookmark the page for quick access when you need to create more QR codes.

Make Sure URL Type is Selected

In the type selector, you'll see options like URL, WiFi, vCard, Email, SMS, and more. Click on "URL" if it's not already selected. The URL option shows a link icon.

Tip: You can switch types anytime - your customization settings will be preserved.

Enter Your Website URL

In the content section, paste or type the complete URL you want to encode. Make sure to include "https://" at the beginning. The generator will validate your URL automatically.

Tip: Use short URLs for simpler, more reliable QR codes. Consider a URL shortener like Bitly for long links.

Customize Your QR Code (Optional)

Click on the "Style" tab to customize your QR code. You can change the foreground and background colors, select different dot shapes (square, rounded, dots), modify eye patterns, and even add a gradient. This step is optional - the default black and white design works perfectly.

Tip: Maintain high contrast between colors for reliable scanning. Dark foreground on light background works best.

Add a Logo (Optional)

In the Style tab, you can upload a logo to appear in the center of your QR code. The logo should be a simple, high-contrast image. Keep it small (the generator defaults to 20% of the QR code area).

Tip: Use a square logo with a transparent background for best results.

Preview and Test

Watch the preview panel update in real-time as you make changes. Before downloading, scan the preview QR code with your phone to verify it opens the correct URL.

Tip: Test on both iPhone and Android if possible. The preview is fully functional.

Download Your QR Code

Click the "Download" button and choose your format: PNG for web use, SVG for print (scales perfectly), or PDF for documents. Select the size that fits your needs - larger sizes work better for printing.

Tip: Download SVG if you might need to resize the QR code later - it stays crisp at any size.

Pro Tips for URL QR Codes
  • Use mobile-friendly landing pages - most scans come from phones
  • Add UTM parameters to track campaigns (utm_source=qrcode)
  • Consider URL shorteners for very long links
  • Always test before printing - verify the URL is correct
  • Leave white space around the QR code when printing
